Current Status of Library Services

(as of 9/5/2020)

The pandemic has caused us to curtail services and access to the Library.
As we move toward full restoration, here is a list of what is currently available:



No public permitted in Library except by appointment for the following services:

  • Curbside Service - Order by phone, 518-494-5384 during Library hours, or online through the catalog
    Reserve materials from our collection. Pick up and return outside at the Library.
    Copying, printing, faxing.
    Interlibrary loan is now available.
  • Computer use by appointment beginning September 9!
  • Notary service by appointment.
  • Some devices may be able to acess our Wifi in the parking lot.

Looking for a book or digital media?
The Town of Chester Library is part of the Southern Adirondack Library System. If we don't have what you're looking for, you can search all member libraries, order online and pick up in Chestertown.

The library is located in the Town of Chester Municipal Center on Main Street in Chestertown, New York

Library Hours

Monday - 10 am to 4 pm
Tuesday - closed
Wednesday - 10 am to 4 pm
Thursday - 10 am to 4 pm
Friday - 10 am to 4 pm
Saturday - closed
Sunday - closed

This website is managed by The Friends of the Town of Chester Public Library, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds to supplement the budget of the Town of Chester Library. The Friends of the Library uses proceeds from fund raising events and membership fees to host educational events, provide programming for children, and to purchase books, periodicals and equipment for the library.
